Family traditions

Family traditions reflect a family's interests and beliefs. It is passing down through the generations. The traditions is less common today than previous generations. We have some traditions in our family. For example, we prepare delicious, hot meals, the preparation of which has been passed down from generation to generation. We get together with our relatives and spend a very good and intimate time. Tradition is commonly associated with religious rituals. Traditions create positive experiences and memories for everyone. Family traditions help children understand who they are and what is important to the family to which they belong. Family traditions don’t have to be formal, fancy, or cost money. They don’t even have to revolve around the holidays. You can share in a family tradition any day or time of the year.

Family traditions from around the world:

Decorating the Christmas tree as a family. This tradition is connected to a religious holiday, it has become widespread around the world.

Hiding baby teeth under a pillow for the tooth fairy.

Honoring ancestors in Japan. Many Japanese homes have a small family altar, or butsudan, as a sign of respect for elders who have passed away.
